“God, you are faithful. You will not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear. But when we are tempted, You will also provide a way out so that we can stand up under it.” (1 Cor 10:13)

Faithful God, You are Faithful. You never change. You are always there. You’ve never failed anyone and you never will.

You are worthy of our worship, our praise, our adoration, our prayers, our thanksgivings and our attentions.

To you belongs all glory and we come to you as your children today, in need, trusting in your faithfulness.

Psalm 145:18-19

The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
He fulfils the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.

Reflection

Moses had just had a conversation with God in which ‘God tells him that he will not get to see the promised land; he will be called to God’s glory practically at the border of the area. He can sense the promised land but cant get to the promised land. Here’s what he says to Joshua, who will take over Moses leadership of God’s people:

Deuteronomy 31:7-8

Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the LORD swore to their ancestors to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

How must Joshua be feeling? And how will the nation of Israel react to their leaders death?

So many people are worried about being left behind when someone dies. Recently it was announced that the Queen’s remaining dogs (2 Corgis and a Dorgi) will go to live with one of her children, Prince Andrew. It was always her intention to ensure her dogs were well looked after. A big responsibility for anybody taking on the caring role.

In the same way; God prepares Joshua to become the carer of his nation and God has promised that he will never leave us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31.8).

Whatever situation we find ourselves in and whatever hurdles we may need to overcome, God will always be with us.

God has promised to love us forever and care for us even after we die.
Surely such a promise of love must require our love in return.

Let’s pray

Lord, you have shown yourself faithful all throughout Scripture. Thank you for being faithful in our lives too. Forgive us for all those times we have doubted you in the past and at times, taken things into our own hands, and not trusted you with our situation. You love us and want the best for us. Your love for us is immeasurable and unconditional.
