The World Day of Prayer is a global ecumenical initiative led by Christian women, who welcome you to join in prayer and action for peace and justice. It is celebrated annually in over 170 countries on the first Friday in March.
Our local World Day of Prayer event was held at the White Church this year, on the afternoon of Friday 1st March. It was well attended with about 80 people from local churches.
The program for WDP2019 was written by the World Day of Prayer Committee of Slovenia. It took the form of a short play written about women of Slovenia from different walks of life. Here is Ann Bucklow’s description:
“First was a lady who was born when Yugoslavia was a Marxist Soviet Republic, then a single mother and next, a mother of two whose life has been affected by alcoholism. Then we heard from a girl from the Roma ethnic minority.
We had a reflection on the painting represented on the front cover, led by Val Atkinson. Everyone was given a red carnation, which is the national flower of Slovenia, which signifies love.
The hymns were sung with enthusiasm, Arthur’s playing was, as always, beautiful and the refreshments were much appreciated and very efficiently served.”
