The annual ‘Walk for Africa’, organised by the White Church Outreach group, took place on Saturday 19th October. This is a fundraiser to support the Stuart Gay Memorial School in The Gambia.
Eleven sponsored walkers, and three dogs, walked from the White Church to Lytham Hall and back and then enjoyed a lunch of soup followed by apple strudel, served by members of the Outreach group.
Marton and Elswick URCs were unable to participate in the “Walk for Africa” due to their own churches’ busy schedules. They have made donations to Stuart Gay of: £200 from Elswick URC (proceeds of a collection); £140 from Marton URC from Church Funds and also £20 and £30 in private donations.
The White Church’s total for the walk was £678 from sponsors, donations and lunch donations.
The total to date is £1,068. This will ensure that the school, which is at Nemu Genku in The Gambia, continues for another year and has funds to rebuild the toilets that were washed away in this year’s rainy season.
Many thanks to everyone who contributed in any way.
