Walk for Africa 13th October 2018 – the walkers gather at the White Church
When preaching recently at the White Church, Stuart Gay updated the Congregation on the Nemu Genku School in Gambia, which we, along with other Churches, support financially.
The Walk for Africa is an annual event, organised by the White Church Outreach group, but involves Elswick and Marton URC’s and a Preston Mosque representative. A total of £1,400 was raised from this year’s walk. Stuart received the donations from sponsorship of the walkers, in addition to individual donations.
The money was taken to Gambia by Stuart in November. He shared in the school prize giving and rejoiced with the 70-plus children at a “party” Gambian style. Stuart inspects the schools accounts, in addition to an independent auditor, to ensure all is in order.
He brought back with him the good wishes of the staff and children of the school, who are grateful for the chance to have an education that would otherwise be denied them, but for our efforts.
