The tomb with the hands (Roermond, Netherlands, 1888)
I came across this photograph recently whilst delving into my family ancestry. To me it speaks volumes about the world of today.
Here we have a couple who were divided by their religious beliefs to such a degree that not only were they buried separately but a brick wall divides their graves!
Yet above all of this dramatic scene we see two hands outstretched and gripping each other as seemingly they reach out to join in triumph over the schism below.
Today mankind is divided in its many attitudes … the results far too often tragic.
You should all try to have the same attitude and the same feelings, love one another as brothers and sisters and be kind and humble with one another…. Do not pay back evil with evil, instead pay back with a blessing, because a blessing is what God promised you when he called you. Turn away from evil and do good, strive for peace with all your heart.
1 Peter 3 Verse 8
God made us all different to each other and with different gifts let us work together, respect one another, accept our differences, and go forward in peace together.
Didn’t Jo Cox say “We are far more united and have more in common with each other than things that divide us.”?
Let us stretch out over the walls which divide us and walk Gods pathway hand in hand.
Prayer.
Father God, may we remember that your love is for the whole world.
Help us to be caring, and honest, to be helpful, loving and forgiving.
Let us show, in all we do and say is as our Lord Jesus taught us.
