On Friday (6th March) we have another Fylde Arts Afternoon Recital at The White Church, starting at 2pm.
It features Jonathan Guy on clarinet and Philip Kubilius on Piano.

JONATHAN GUY (clarinet) is establishing himself as one of the most innovative composers of his generation. Originally hailing from Wrexham, North Wales, Jonathan is a co-founder of the innovative chamber orchestra NEW Sinfonia for whom he has
been commissioned to write a number of pieces for their concerts and the orchestra’s residency at the North Wales International Music Festival.
His piece ‘A Veiled Smile’, commissioned by the North Wales International Music Festival and Thomas Howell Education Fund, gained national recognition on BBC News and on the Radio 4 PM Show. This was the first in a series of pieces written to encourage
young musicians of any ability to enjoy making music and performing in an orchestra.
As well as composing and performing with NEW Sinfonia, as a clarinettist Jonathan has
performed with the Orchestra of Opera North, BBC Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, Northern Chamber Orchestra and is the Bass Clarinettist with the IMMIX Contemporary Music Ensemble who are based in Liverpool. Recent performances with
IMMIX have seen him perform at the PRS New Music Biennial Festival at the Southbank Centre in London.
PHILIP KUBILIUS (piano), a scholarship holder at the Royal Manchester College of Music, studied with Colin Horsley O.B.E. graduating with special merit in performance and has made a particular study of the music of Chopin.
He has accompanied many famous singers and instrumentalists and has been in demand
as a chamber musician and soloist throughout his career. He formed the Preston Wind Quintet (now known as Ensemble Elan) which performed successfully in the North of England, Scotland and the Isle of Man, The Kubilius Trio and duos with various artists.
Philip’s work in education includes 24 years as head of keyboard at The Blackburn School of Music. Philip has been a teacher of Tai Chi and Qigong for over 30 years.
