Each year, White Church member Janet Sherwood coordinates the purchase and distribution of the Meaningful Chocolate Company Real Advent Calendar. It is the only Fairtrade chocolate Advent calendar which includes a book for children which tells of the real meaning of Christmas.
This time, over 200 calendars were sold by Janet at the White Church and by other members of the Fylde Fairtrade Steering Group who attend churches across the Fylde (Church Road Methodist in St Annes, Kirkham Methodist church, St Annes URC, St Annes Parish Church and St Cuthbert’s Parish Church in Lytham).
The profits from these sales, plus donations, enabled 120 calendars to be given to charitable organisations. Janet delivered 30 calendars to each of four charities: Brian House Children’s Hospice, Coast Women’s Aid, the Children’s Centre at Sydney Street, and Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Home Start based at Blackpool Football Club. Janet also gave each of them a Christmas card on behalf of our congregations and Fylde Fairtrade Steering Group, and they all expressed their thanks and were grateful for our donations.
