Visit to the Fleetwood Hub Project by Churches Together

Representatives from Churches Together in Ansdell and Fairhaven, including Jan Hirst and Linda Lunn from the White Church, recently handed over a cheque for £1,617.49 to the Fleetwood Trust for the Community Hub being created in the Fleetwood Hospital building.

They met with Trustees and were given a guided tour of the premises that will house the project. The building was like the “Marie Celeste”, containing equipment, clothing and instruments that had been left at the closure of the hospital, 8 years ago. The well equipped kitchen even had the price of meals still on the board! The atmosphere was quite eerie but it will soon be a busy place providing a variety of facilities for the benefit of the Fleetwood community.

The ground floor will be opened in the late Spring of 2020, and will be a one stop, drop-in shop for the diverse needs of the disadvantaged in Fleetwood. It will serve meals, give advice and have therapy areas. The other two floors will be rehabilitation units for patients recovering from joint replacement surgery, as the nearest facility, currently, is at the Clifton Hospital in Lytham St Annes. Prince Charles has been instrumental in the funding of the project and advice on the materials and usage.

There are five churches involved in the Churches Together in Ansdell and Fairhaven group and they take it in turns to choose a charity to support through their fundraising activities. The Fleetwood Community Hub project was the choice of St Joseph’s Church. The Chairperson of the group is White Church member, Joan Baldwin. She was on holiday at the time of this presentation.
